Open Source Rockets in Portland

Portland, Oregon is not the first place that springs to mind when you think about rocket science, but Portland State Aerospace Society is doing its best to change that. This open source rocket group have ambitions to send 1kg to orbit – something that only 10 (multi)national space programmes and one commercial company have ever achieved. It’s an impressive goal, and I dropped in at one of their weekly meetings to find out more.

PSAS Project Manager, Andrew Greenberg explains why deathly dull engineering labs inspired him to start the group, how they’re moving towards their goal of orbit, and blames the US education system for the lack of women studying engineering:
